Who am I?
Hello, my name is Nina. I am the third of four girls, with many, many more cousins. I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA; I got my undergrad degree in Publishing and Classical Literature in Long Island, NY; I spent a couple years in Boston, MA living with my best friend and sister before going to Buffalo, NY for my Masters. Now, I live in South Carolina with my partner.
I have always loved to read and I am thrilled to be able to share that here. What has always been most engaging for me with literature is the deep intimacy you share with the characters, the way you can understand real life with greater complexity from the fictional stories you read. With this, I read just about everything, every genre I can find. I have a bachelors in Classical Language and Literature, meaning Latin and Ancient Greek, so I have a deep appreciation for the stuff that seems to be falling farther and farther out of popular culture. But I will never say no to fantasy or romance or both.
More so than the reading itself, my greatest interest is people. What do they do? Why do they do it? What do they hope to come from it? How did they come to the decision to do that in the first place? How did their background and the things that happened twenty years ago impact the decision made two minutes ago? There is a great deal of research that attempts to answer these questions in psychology, sociology, and philosophy, but I think the best answers are found in literature.
On this site, I will review books I read; I will consider what makes sense to me about life as well as what does not; I will travel and meet new people; I will eat good food from different people and cultures and experimentations; I will experience what it means to be alive. I will not be limited to one concept for my content because that is not within human nature to be so singularly minded. Take what you like, leave what you don’t.
